Two tennis players, Russian and Belurissan, were banned from competing in this year’s Wimbledon due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Russia and Belarus have invaded the Olympic Truce that was established in ancient Greece, which states that there must be a “cessation of hostilities” between competing countries before the game. Thomas Bach, the International Olympic Committee President, disagrees with the ban of the players because it sets precedent for athletes from other countries to be barred from future competitions on the basis of coming from a politically controversial country.
